2024-11-18 The Rallies Over

The sunsets in the hill country are beautiful and make a stunning backdrop for some of our members RVs!

The rally is over but we still have another day to enjoy before heading home so we headed into Kerrville. The Schreiner's were very big in Kerrville history.

There a number of beautiful old buildings. We had a very interesting conversation with two French tourists who are wrapping up their tour of the U.S.

There is a really nice covered pavilion overlooking the river right downtown.

Some interesting history about a very unique telephone company that started in 1898.

Downtown also has a James Avery sculpture on display.

It was a great week in Kerrville and we will be back for another rally next year!

2024--11-17 Texas Ramblin' Roses Rally

Friday night close to 50 Roses headed to Billy Gene's restaurant in Kerrville. Good friends, good food, a fun night!

We definitely filled the room.

Back at the RV park, games were in play. This is the Samba gang. Mexican train and Rumikub are very popular with more of the crowd.

Saturday morning was set aside for the annual business meeting.

There was also a presentation on trips planned and taken by Jo, Teresa, and Teri. It was very interesting especially when they talked about how they planned their travel stops and the kind of places they preferred. One preferred state parks and COE parks and felt safer with lots of space between sites. Another preferred very well lit private parks where neighbors are close together. The third varied the kind of places she stayed and stayed two different nights at church parking lots. One planned and reserved every night well in advance, one made reservations the day before. One had sites reserved well in advance on the way out while just stopping wherever she landed on her trip home. Lots to think about for those who haven't traveled before.

Our chapter christens members new rigs to wish them well on future travels.

"Chef" Elaine with two or three "sou" chefs for a little assistance prepared a delicious green chile chicken enchilada casserole for Saturday night. She even made a couple of side casseroles for special dietary needs. Members brought sides and desserts so it was a full and delicious meal for all.

I think this is the "goofy" version of our rally photo!

And once again the evening ended with games.

I should mention that the park has an indoor pool and hot tub that some of us made good use of.

2024-11-16 Kerrville Rally Olympics.

Ever been to the Olympics or better yet, participated in them? The Texas Ramblin' Roses  had their own version of the Olympics at this rally. Our own Hilde Barnett orchestrated the whole event. Teams of 4 were set up.

It started with the great potato race. each team member had to carry a potato between their legs and drop it in the bucket without dropping it along the way. This was a case where having just a bit of extra padding could be a benefit, lol. Some of the potatoes rode significantly above the knees. Some of our members are just a little competitive so things were off to a good start.

Next up was a race involving balloons. The whole team had to move as one with a balloon between each member. No hands were allowed. I heard some teams counting cadence......we have a lot of retired military members.

I think the goal here was to get an object into the basket.

Shooting a "gun" requires a proper stance even when foam bullets are in play.

Hmmm, get the ball in the cup.

Pickle ball anyone?

I was right, get the ball in the basket!

And yes! There were trophies.

It was a fun time with lots of good natured sparring and heckling.

2024-11-14 Old River Road RV Park, Kerrville TX

Tuesday the 12th, I headed towards Old River Road RV in Kerrville TX. The rally I was going to didn't start until Thursday evening but my sister-in-law Elaine and I like to arrive early and stay late so we can have downtime to do whatever we want to do. I knew I didn't want to deal with the construction mess on 1604 in San Antonio so I took back roads through Boerne There was also construction mess in Bulverde that I didn't know about and even two construction areas closing one lane north on I-10. .I turned off on 27 at Comfort as the RV park is a ways out of Kerrville

I got my RV washed before the rally by "Attention to Detail" out of Bandera.who came to the park with their own water tank. They did a great job. Elaine and many others had their rigs washed over the next few days.

"Serendipity" looked bright and shiny after her bath. I waited to set up anything outside until the spa day was over.

Elaine and I took a ride back to Comfort to look around on Wednesday. We stopped at Comfort Pizza and wow, was it good. Wood fired thin pizza crust with really fresh toppings. All seating is outdoors but it was a beautiful day. They have pizza, ice cream, sodas, beer, and wine. It looks like an old fashioned corner gas station on the front but my picture seems to have disappeared. This is in the side yard where you pick your pizza up and sit.

This was a California BLT pizza which we split and had plenty for lunch the next day.

Interesting downtown billboard.

Akong the same side street, we saw this shop which had coffee, breakfast sandwiches, and lunch in addition to a ton of antiques and Christmas items.

Pretty snazzy entrance.

They go all out with Christmas decorations this time of year.

The inside is large but there is also a huge area out back with individual shop areas all around it. They are all run by individuals.

Thursday afternoon we signed into the rally and then some of us headed to Center Point which is between the RV park and Comfort. We ate at a unique little place called Toucan Jim's. Most seating is outside. They have some sort of inside but it was smoky. Cooled off pretty good but we survived.

And the fun is just beginning! Stay tuned.
