On the Road: Lazy Longhorn RV Park in Victoria TX

We took our time getting ready to pull out this morning.  There wasn't a lot to do besides put the cold items in the fridge and the frozen items in the freezer, load the dog condos and a few other odds and ends but there was no real hurry either.  Harley and Willy both escaped and made a mad dash to the truck but then settled for the open RV door as they sensed it was almost time for the RV to depart.  Since DH took the Garmin GPS to Florida with him, I was left with the Magellan Maestro 3220 that he bought for a song.  It took me a while to get it programmed and figure out how it worked.  And, naturally it didn't agree with the short cut I took out of town, do they ever?  It has a feature that comes on and asks if you want to simulate the revised route once it reprograms.  That was a bit of a pain.  (I have since figured out how to shut that feature off.)  I guess my only lingering complaint is the small screen size.  We'll see how it goes the rest of the trip.  It does have a place for a card which may work well with the Microsoft Streets and Trips that a friend recently gave me.

It was a nice drive down to Victoria.  Mostly two lane road and a couple of minor construction areas that didn't hold me up too long.  I was really hoping to see fields of bluebonnets but no such luck.  There were a couple of small patches along the way but not where I could stop to get pictures.  Last year, on our drive down to Goliad, there were huge fields but that was a different highway.  And it was March so maybe I am late for this area.  I did see one very interesting site.  There were 8 fairly large U-Haul trucks each towing an empty flat trailer in a little caravan down the road in the left hand lane which did not please other drivers so much.  One kept pulling over to the right lane and then going back to the left lane.  All of a sudden they pulled into a left turn lane and darted into a gas station (well, at least darted as much as a large vehicle towing can dart).  I was in the right lane and went right on past so didn't see if they all managed to get into the station at once or not.  Their antics on the road reminded me of a dog on a walk looking for just the right place to piddle.

I found the Lazy Longhorn RV Park in Victoria quite easily.

It seems like a nice park, very well kept, and pretty.  And they do Passport America which makes it even more attractive.  The wifi is free and seems to work quite well.

The staff was very friendly and quickly and efficiently checked me in.

The other man on duty escorted me to my spot in his golf cart.  They have nice pull-through and back-in spots to choose from.  There are still quite a few Winter Texans here that are waiting out all that cold nasty weather up north.  I saw some Canadian and Wyoming license plates along with lots of others.

  The dachsies waited quite patiently in the truck while I got us all hooked up, extended the slides, etc.  My Pink FlaminGoes and WomenRV friends can see Gloria's Pleasure Way right across from me.  She came to say hi and then left me to do the set-up as all smart RV friends do so there are no distractions. 

Gloria fixed us a lovely dinner that her daughter sent along with her.  We ate on the picnic table and then took the dachsies and her Paco for a walk around the park.  Later we visited for a while in my Pholly.  This park has good wifi and also provides cable TV as part of the nightly price.
