Shawnee's Famous Painted Horses

Sunday, Mary Jane and I decided to check out some of the sights in Shawnee. We found a brochure in our Welcome package that told us about the Shawnee horses. Now we have found interesting symbols in many cities.....horses in Wimberley TX, Sheep in San Angelo TX, and pump jacks in Luling TX. It is an interesting way to check out the sights in a town. With Mary Jane driving and me navigating and taking photos, we saw a lot of the town and had a great time doing it.

There are more than two dozen horses gracing the streets of Shawnee. They are fiberglass statues hand-painted by local artists that share a unique story. They were installed in celebration of Oklahoma's centennial year in 2007 and have expanded since then.

Historia - This was one of the hardest to find as it was located inside the Expo Center office while all the others were located outside.

Now we don't think we found all the horses but we had fun looking for them and saw parts of town we would not have seen if we hadn't been out searching for these unique symbols of Shawnee.
