2021-06-09 Ballinger City Park, A Stop on the Way to a Rally

Mary Jane and I headed out about 10AM on Tuesday morning. Our ultimate destination was a Texas Ramblin' Roses Rally in Abilene TX but we had other plans on the way. Our first stop was in Fredricksburg. We parked the RVs at Walmart, turned on the generator and A/C for Harley and headed out in the car. First stop was to check out Ladybird Johnson park. We used to stay there at least once a year when we drove down from Wichita Falls. The RV park wasn't as full as I thought it might be. Everything is very green....so unusual for mid-June in Texas but we have had a lot of rain. We checked out the downtown area. We ended up at an outside patio restaurant for lunch. The food was good when we got it but service was very, very slow. It seems like many small businesses are suffering from lack of employees right now.

After lunch we headed to our overnight stop in Ballinger City Park. The park itself is very nice. The RV hookups are a little strange as the hookups and picnic tables occupy a central strip with 3 RVs parking on each side. As a result, your door faces the road. There is very little traffic there since the RV area is the only thing in that area. You are next to the Colorado River. Electric and water hookups are $15/night which you deposit in an "iron ranger". There is also a dump station on the road into the park. There is also another area for RVs but it is just some electric hookups around a dirt lot, okay in a pinch.

The rest of the park is really in beautiful shape right now. The grass was all trimmed and everything looked wonderful. The RV area could use a little paint on the table covers and the grass trimmed. They have a really nice pool.

And the play area for kids is really top notch. Any kid would be thrilled to play there.

This is another picture of the pool area with a fountain and shallow pool for younger kids.

This is the RV area. Mary Jane and I were the only RVers there on Tuesday night.

Mary Jane's car battery was dead Tuesday night and her battery charger didn't charge up overnight. I reminded her that she had Roadside Service and we could call them first thing in the morning. We didn't plan on leaving Ballinger until noon anyway as we couldn't check in to the park in Abilene until after 2. Roadside Service showed up about 30 minutes after she called and gave her a jump start. We let the car run for about 30 minutes to charge up. We also figured out why the battery was dead so hopefully she won't have that problem again as it was operator error. Always a bonus when you can figure out the cause.
