I recently made a trip to Fredericksburg Texas one of my favorite places in the Hill Country. Our Texas Ramblin' Roses chapter of RVing Women was having a rally there but more on that later.
I love Fredericksburg and always take the opportunity to take in the sites. This town always seems to be so international. Not only does it have a distinct German flavor due to the early settlers but you will find visitors from all over the world here.
The Marketpatz is an interesting place at any time but they are already getting prepared for the Christmas season.
This is the Vereins Kirche Museum.
The library is right across the street from the Marketplatz.
We had lunch at Rathskeller Bistro in the basement of an 1800s stone building which was the old Memorial Keidel Hospital. There is a fantastic kitchen shop on the main floor.
I also took a drive out to the Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park.
It's located right behind the airport and includes an RV park and golf course. The RV park is very popular. The park grounds are also very popular.
Interesting use of a tree stump as the old house in a shoe.
The German wooden Christmas tree was already up. I stopped to take a picture for two tourists so they could both be in the picture. Christmas wreaths were being put up on the light posts downtown and several stores were already decorated.
Several of us had lunch at Hondo's on Main. It was raining but didn't get too wet. Thank goodness we went early because there was a lineup to get in when we left.
Hondo Crouch is pretty famous in Texas. He bought Luckenbach and put it on the map.
They had a good two man band playing while we were there. The food was good too.
After dinner, we had to make a quick stop at Clear River. This place is open later than any place else on Main Street other than restaurants. They have great homemade ice cream in so many different flavors. They also have pastries and sandwiches. Years ago we would bring our RV to Fredericksburg and stay at the Lady Bird Johnson RV park between Christmas and New Years. We often ended up at Clear River last thing in the evening for coffee after walking around downtown.
Love Clear River and the stores where you can sample jellies, salsas, etc. I'm German so Fredericksburg reminds me of my German relatives and the Schwartzwald.
