2024-05-02 Comanchero Canyons Museum, Quitaque TX

Quitaque is a really tiny town but they have a great museum. https://comancherocanyons.org

The museum is only open Saturdays but if you have a group, they will happily open and give you a tour if you make advance reservations.

The museum does a great job of giving a full picture of the history of this area. We got a narrated tour and it was really good.

You can start with a couple of outside displays.

Once you are inside, there are photos, paintings, and lots of displays.

You can even learn more about Charles Goodnight and the Ja ranch. Keep in mind that Mary Ann Goodnight was really the driving force in saving the bisons from extinction.

This was a great little museum and well worth a visit. It's free but well worth a donation for the great volunteers that keep it going.

Quitaque has some interesting places.

The Coffee Mill coffee shop is great. Not only do they have a great coffee bar, the food is also great and prices are reasonable. This is the only place to eat in town as the restaurant closed while we were there.

This was the only restaurant in town and we heard it closed down. Too bad.

Nice mural from Lonesome Dove on one of the buildings.

This is an antique shop that also has a bakery in the back room.

All in all, a cute town that has shrunk in size over the years.
