2025-6-25 Coleman TX - A Town on the Upswing in West Texas

This was not my first trip to Coleman Texas but it has been a while and I was surprised at all the activity downtown.

Coleman was once a busy little town but, as what happens to so many small and even not so small towns, things slowed down and there weren't as many businesses anymore. Coleman is definitely on the upswing again.
They have a two block stretch of businesses with a unique strip of parking down the center of the traffic lanes as well as angle parking in front of all the stores. You can start with a stop at the Chamber of Commerce.

The library is right on the main street and a very nice library it is. Several store areas have been combined to give them lots of room. They have a great children's area with activities in addition to books. They have a comfortable sitting area right near the front desk to relax and read a book. We also enjoyed a Photo Show of pictures from the movie Lonesome Dove. The photos were displayed like large paintings and were pretty amazing.

You can't miss the library with the huge art on the side of the building.

In a previous post, I told you that we had a large group of rving women there for dinner one night. The wood fired pizza was fabulous but I would warn that it can be a little spicy for some. Next time, and there will be a next time, I plan on ordering the Margherita pizza.

Odd and Company carries a little bit of everything you might be looking for.......

Elaine bought a large abstract acrylic painting of a black and white cow.

Artwork is popular in terms of murals downtown. These are all brands of area ranches.

Ravenworks on Pecan Street just off the main downtown street is a social crafthouse where guests come to create one of our thoughtfully-designed craft projects with friends or family.

Bucketheads is a women's clothing store that carries all kinds of styles plus a variety of gifts and home decor.

Something Sweet is opening soon.

Grammer's has been around for quite a while. They carry all kinds of clothes and accessories.

Stop by and see this amazing old cash register.

Just across the street, you will see the Prickly Pear, another unique clothing store.

In the market for some candles, check out Wicked Wick Candle Company.

You can find everything related to olive oil at Olive Oil Co.

The Cattle Drive Cafe has indoor and outdoor seating and was a busy place.

Another beautiful mural decorating the side of a store.

You can't say there is no bull here.

I definitely didn't want to leave out Owl Drug.

A group of ladies had been meeting several mornings a week for coffee for over 50 years! They have an old fashioned soda fountain and some really fantastic hamburger baskets.

The owner is an Elvis fan and the whole store is decorated with Elvis memorabilia.

Right behind the main business district is the local grocery store. I didn't get a picture but you should check out the unique checkout stands if you stop by. I've never seen any like them.

All of these places are in the main downtown area. There is also a unique bakery in an old Sinclar gas station that I didn't get a picture of and there are many other businesses like Tractor Supply, a hardware store, Dollar General, Dollar Tree, as well as many other restaurants in town.

Stop by and visit Coleman. You won't be sorry!
