July found me taking a quick trip up to New Braunfels TX with my granddaughter. New Braunfels is a place I go to often as well as Gruene which is nearby as well but it has been quite a while since I was actually in the downtown area. Our first stop was to park. We were right in front of this beautiful mural.
We made a quick stop at Naegelin's Bakery for a quick breakfast snack. Naegelin's is the oldest bakery in Texas dating from 1868. Edouard Naegelin was 24 when he opened the bakery and operated it until his death in 1923. It was operated by his children and grandchildren until they sold it to the Granzin family in the early 1980s. They sell all kinds of baked goods including struedel, breads, cakes, cookies, danish, kolaches, and pies. They even have a drive-through along with tables in front and on the side of the building.
Fickle Pickles has opened a shop next door.
We crossed the street to check out other businesses downtown. It's very busy on that corner because there is a roundabout.
This bandstand or pavilion sits in the middle of the roundabout.
Many of the buildings downtown have been around for a long time ad have been repurposed numerous times.
Artwork is prominent in downtown New Braunfels. This beautiful sculpture was on the rooftop of the Cowboys and Cadillacs bar.
Buildings are occupied and in use by stores, restaurants, and bars.
As I said, art is important.
This antique shop was not open when we went by but I see they also offer ice cream.
It's called the Traveling Gypsy
The Brauntex Theater is a Performing Arts Center not a movie theater.
There is a unique railroad museum right downtown. Unfortunately it wasn't open as early as we visited.
More beautiful murals can be found around the downtown area. They depict the history of the town
A shot of the train station which is now the railroad museum.
Yes, you guessed it. Scoop Street is an ice cream and confectionary shop.
New Braunfels has a lot to offer in addition to the river tubing and Schlitterbahn Waterpark.
