An RV Escape

We talked about heading out in the RV but it didn't get any further than that on Thursday because the weather was looking kind of iffy with rain a good possibility over the weeken.  Friday morning we were still in the thinking mode but, once we decided, it was "pick up the RV from the storage lot, turn on the fridge, throw in clothes and food (everything in the freezer because it will get cold faster), and then we were off".  Okay, we didn't go far.....just off to Canyon Lake again.  DS came along since DIL was off to a triathlon in Augusta and DH was working (of course he rarely comes along anyway).

We're ready, let's go......

Well, hi, welcome back.

Interesting sunscreen we noticed on the way into the park.

We got in a number of walks.  The Traveling Longdogs are big on walks.

Steve was off doing some heavy duty bike riding on Saturday morning so I made a quick trip to a farmer's market that just opened this weekend.

While they had some interesting booths, they will have to drum up a whole lot more or visitors will be few and far between.  There was only one booth with some vegetables, a couple of craft booths, and one with some canned goods, and another with meat in a freezer.....definitely not enough for a big draw.  I hope they have success.

We made a trip into Satterly to the ACE Hardware.....if you are ever in the area.....stop by because they have a great RV section with lots of items.  We also stopped at the Canyon Lake Dam.  There is a nice little park and a walk across the dam.

Great views even though the lake is down.

The rain came through with a vengence on Saturday night.  The lightning beat any fireworks display and the thunder was deafening.  The Traveling Longdogs slept right through it all.....need that beauty rest you know.  Steve also slept through it because he had earplugs.  The thunder was loud enough to wake me from a dead sleep.  I heard later than the lightning hit the ground several places.  One guy was out with his dog doing you know what at 2AM and it struck very close to him.  The dachsies and I have a deal.....no potty breaks between 10:30PM and 0800AM....works for us.

Sunday, Steve and I headed over to Wimberly for a stroll around town and lunch.

Lunch was great at the Wimberly Cafe and the Pumpkin Lattes from Sip! were good too.

I guess that the town square in Wimberly has always been busy.  There were lots of people out and about.

Steve headed back to San Antonio on Sunday afternoon but the dachsies and I will continue to enjoy our RV fun for the rest of the week.

While the Motorcycles are Away....the Girls will Play

Getting ready to go~

Final loading.

Final directions.....

Mug shots.....

One last shot...

Are you sure you have everything?  What about the GPS?

And yes......they are off!

Second morning on the road....getting ready to leave Ft Stockton motel.

 Mountain views from New Mexico.

I believe they must be in Roswell!

Riding in the mountains in Ruidoso.  As far as pictures at the Golden Aspen rally.....hey, I can only show what I got from facebook.

But we know they had a very good time and managed to avoid most of the rain both coming and going.

In the meantime, Helen and I got to play too.......

We went to Emily's Place in Cibolo.

Where we had some great coffee.

Another day we had lunch at Catalano's, again in Cibolo, TX.

And we also went to Gruene, TX for an afternoon.

And then, on Friday, we drove up to Marble Falls to pick up the grandkids for the weekend.  We asked where they would like to have dinner before we headed home and they chose the China Garden in Marble Falls.

They both had some great fried rice and did a decent job of using chopsticks.

It was very good.

And while the guys escaped most of the rain, we did get rain in San Antonio.  Yay!

Soccer Trip to Brownwood TX

It wasn't a "weekend with Dad" but the stars aligned and things lined up so that both kids would be playing soccer within two hours of each other so......    Steve, Helen, and I hopped in the car very early and were on the road to Brownwood at 6:45AM Saturday.  The only stop we made was for Starbucks in Marble Falls.  We needed to be in Brownwood and find the soccer fields for Morgan's 11:00 AM game.

Neither the kids nor their mother knew we were coming.  Morgan arrived just in time for her game.  I guess this is the group huddle.  Morgan is on the far right.  Her team is the Katz.

Morgan didn't start the game.  I think they weren't paying enough attention for their coach but he was patient.  It wasn't really Morgan's idea to play soccer.

Once she got in the game, she looked like she knew what she was supposed to do.

Her fancy french braid worked great at keeping her hair out of her eyes and she did pretty good during the game.  Her team won!

Cameron was "chilling" with his friends while Morgan's game was going on.

Now, he really does know what he is doing.  You could tell his team is two years older than Morgan's just by how they played.

Here he is kicking the ball back into play.

I should mention that it was about 100 degrees out there.  The kids were all tired by the time their games were over.

Cameron's team won too.

We really didn't get to spend any time with the kids but we gave them hugs and they knew we were there watching them so the hours in the car were definitely worth while.

Motorcycle Road Trip Prep

Heads up, the "boys" are getting ready to go on a road trip.

First the wheels have to come off because they are going to get new tires.

Okay, everybody has to be really, really careful moving through the garage because there isn't a lot of support for this body.

The old tires need to come off.  That means breaking the bead that helps hold them on.

Then the new ones have to get put on.  Tire first, then the tube gets slipped in so it doesn't get twisted or pinched.

It's not so easy to get the tire back on.

It's usually a two-person job.  Trying to make sure the tube isn't twisted or pinched.  And then trying to get the tire back on the rim properly.

I think maybe we got it.

Next stop was the motorcycle shop to get the tires balanced.  Funny thing happened on the way home, someone ran into the back of our car while it was stopped at a stop sign.  No, not really funny at all.  Steve did everything right and we are still waiting for the culprit's insurance company to get the repair process started.  Seems that their "client" hasn't contacted them about a claim yet.  Hmmm, police called, incident report filed, other kid's mom was called to scene so can't just blame the kid for not following through with proper action. What's wrong with people?

Motorcycle trip coming up next week.
