Silver City and the City of Rocks

At last, I have wanted to visit Silver City for some time now and we have finally arrived.

If you want to bring your RV here, I recommend coming up from I-10 rather than the road we took from T or C which would be rather challenging with a larger RV. There are quite a few RV parks here. This is the downtown area.

A number of restaurants are located downtown but we were looking for one with a patio.

And here it is. We knew this was going to be a long day when we left so Harley came along. He loves going in the car, truck, or RV. We had to go around the block to the back to get to the patio.

Along the way, we saw the fountain of youth which I think was an exercise studio.

It was right next to this place.

 This was a plaque telling about the Big Ditch Riverwalk Park. We ran into it as we went around the block.

And this is the "Big Ditch".  Doesn't look a lot like San Antonio or San Angelo's Riverwalk but it was pretty in it's own way.

We finally reached the patio.

Only one other table was occupied but it was well past lunchtime. I knew a couple of our Texas Ramblin' Roses spent time here to get away from the heat in the Rio Grande Valley. I thought they left a week ago but decided to text. They were heading home the next but it was too late to meet for lunch unfortunately so I won't see them until the November Rally.

The waitress brought all of us water including Harley. He got a doggie biscuit too.

 There were lots of choices on the menu.

 After lunch, we went back to the main street and saw these beautiful windows on the way.

It is going to take another trip to Silver City spending a few days to see the area but for now we needed to start heading back. We decided to take a slightly different route to see another park I have heard a lot about. This road would connect back to the one we took in but I hoped it would be closer to T or C as it would be dark before we got home. It didn't seem as high here but it definitely was.

It had just rained the direction we were going so we were treated to this rainbow.

This was another of New Mexico's state parks that is very well known. It is kind of off by itself between I-10 and Silver City.

I guess this is how they get water for the park.

The camping sites are situated between the rocks which do look like a city from a distance.

Many of the sites are very private as they are tucked in between the rocks.

There are some hiking and biking trails.

Again, it is a desert park......a place of extremes.  The land around the park is flat so the rocks really are noticeable when you get close to the park.

Carolyn was quick enough to catch some more wildlife, lol.

We were very glad we took the extra time to check out this state park as it is unique. We did have to go back through the mountains in the dark but we took our time and were surprised at the amount of traffic.
