Pot Luck Breakfast on Sunday

Everybody gathered for coffee with breakfast soon to follow.  Birdie, Darlene, MaryJane, Sue, and Martha.

Sharon, Karen, Carolyn, Gloria, and Sharon (Sprinter) are bright-eyed too.

Pat, Margareta, Ann (Dawn's Mom), Dawn, and Maggie.  Dawn brought Barbzee to the GTG via her Ipad.  We all got to see her and talk to her and she got to join the breakfast.

We had lots of goodies for breakfast too, biscuits and gravy, sausage, eggs, cinnabon cake that Barbzee volunteered Dawn to make for us (oh, yummmmmm).  There were lots of other items too.  Margareta, Carolyn, Gloria, and Pat are checking it all out.  If you could see through the plexiglass, you would see three long dogs checking it out too.

After breakfast, Chris (Redwahine) presented Birdie and I with her "find" from the Market Days at Wimberley.   Pretty appropo wouldn't you say?

And the fun continues.....

Pot Lucks and Dutch Oven Cooking

Before we got to the Potluck and the Dutch Oven cooking, we took our GTG picture.  We just did a combined group of Pink FlaminGoes and Women RV forum members since quite a few women belong to both groups and we were a combined gathering anyway.  From top left to right - Birdie (Nancy) and Colleen (Longdog2)   Middle row - Maggie (Sandersmr), Martha (Acadianmom), Karen, Judy (JudyJB), Chris (Redwahine), SharonM, Gloria (gklb), Pat, Liz, Carolyn (cpatinjones), Darlene, KarenW, Margareta, Ann (Dawn's mom)   Front row - Sharon (Sprinter), Dawn, Kim

We had 26 women who attended for at least one day, 20 RVs, and 3 gents. For those that arrived later, Susan came for the day on Wednesday.  For those who had to leave Sunday, Vicki (Yakn) arrived on Sunday afternoon and Diana (Mtngal) arrived Monday. Good park, good weather, good fun, good food, and no "attitudes"...what else can one ask for? And very special thanks to Dawn for making the lovely pink earrings for all the ladies and to Maggie for the awesome Dutch Oven cooking lessons.

Sharon (Sprinter) waiting for dinner.

Maggie gives us a quick peek at the peach and pineapple cobbler on the right.  The stew is on the bottom left with a pot of cornbread on top.

Sharon watches as Maggie checks the coals.  This girl is an expert and she makes it all look so easy and fun.  She starts her charcoal in the tall canister under the cooking table.  Extra coals are in the round pan and the silver can with the lid is for ashes.

Maggie stirs the stew.

Everyone is filling their plates.  We had lots of extras but I think Maggie made enough to feed everyone anyway.  MaryJane is coming at a run on the right.

Liz and Sue are in semi-serious conversation over something.  Liz is all decked out.

Another great potluck winds down with everyone relaxing together until long after dark.

Saturday at Wimberly's Market Days and Pink FlaminGoes Bingo

We were up early and on the road to Wimberly Market Days at 0800 on Saturday morning.  At least most of us were.  Some chose to sleep in and wait until about 10:00 to head out (he he, they apparently didn't believe us when we warned them of how heavy the traffic would get in Wimberly.)  A few chose to just relax for the morning right there at Potter's Creek.  Whatever anyone wants to do is okay with the Pink FlaminGoes.  Here is Liz prepared to look for her latest haul.  She is an astute shopper and has the extremely well decorated RV to prove it.

Some come well prepared to take home their goodies.  The shopping area is large and there are oh so many booths to ooh and ah over.

I think Margareta has her eye on something here.  Christmas items were plentiful.

There were already a lot of people on site when we arrived.

Need a unique bird feeder?

I had some trouble with my camera so that is all I got at the Market Days.  Back at the campground, the group prepared for Pink FlaminGoes Bingo.  In our version of Bingo, everyone wins because once someone wins a prize, they continue to play and pass their next win on to someone else.  Makes it extra fun for all.

Got a few pictures of prizes.  Chris snagged a lovely handmade (by Sharon G) scarf.

I can't remember what Karen won but she seemed pretty pleased with it.

Sharon won a lovely pair of Pink Flamingo mugs.

Pat is our wonderful Bingo lady who always brings all her Bingo equipment along.  I'm not sure if Maggie was showing her a dance step or stepping on a yellow jacket.

Maggie won her very first Pink Flamingo decorations.

Dawn was very happy with her "Today is Day One" prize.

Sharon G won a hat and scarf which she later traded to Ann (Dawn's Mom) for a tool set since she is getting ready to fix up her own RV.

Darlene carried off a Pink Flamingo banner.

Kim will be soaking in lots of orange and tangerine bubbles.

Birdie is all ready for Thanksgiving with towels and oven mitts.

Can't remember what Sue won but she seems happy with her pick.

Margareta will be hanging a Welcome to Paradise plaque near her RV.

Martha scored some great tablecloths for her future adventures.

Carolyn carried off a coffee cup and soup mug.

Will this fun never end?   On to our next Potluck Dinner and it is a special one complete with Dutch Oven cooking.

RV tours, Geocaching, and Dinner at Coopers BBQ in New Braunfels

Friday morning we had a tour of all the RVs.  Sorry to say but I don't have any photos but we had everything--Class B, Class B+, Class C, Class A, Travel Trailers, and 5th wheels all ranging from 20 ft to 37 ft long.  Everyone really enjoyed seeing all the rigs and picking up ideas on how to make better use of space, modifications both large and small, how to decorate, and what might be next on their wish list. We had 17 rigs to check out since Sharon (Sprinter) had not yet arrived and we graciously gave Paul a pass on the tour.

Our next adventure was a lesson in geocaching by Birdie.  She explained all the how-to's, the geocaching website , told about some of the geocaching adventures she had in Alaska this summer, and then we were off to find two geocaches in the park.  Birdie, Carolyn, Dawn, Karen, and I set out to find the hidden treasures.  The first one involved some scrambling around on the hillside but we found it.  Birdie also added a traveling charm that she found in a cache in Alaska that asked to be moved to a warmer climate.  The second cache involved a hike across some long grass to a wooded area.  Dawn and Birdie persevered and found that cache as well.  It was a fun adventure.  I think Dawn is definitely a new geocacher in the making.  Carolyn and I will try it again too.

Birdie's SIL, Theresa, came out to join us Friday afternoon and got in some kayaking.  Although Chris (Redwahine) wanted to kayak as well, she and DH Larry were off touring the Wildlife Ranch while the kayaking was going on.  Next time Chris.  The water is still down at Canyon Lake but it has come up several feet from where it was earlier in the year.

Friday afternoon about 4:00PM, we set out in a caravan for Cooper's BBQ in New Braunfels.  Birdie led the way down River Road from Satterly into New Braunfels.  It's a beautiful 20 mile drive which winds back and forth across the Guadalupe River about 7 times.  You'll be going slow along the twisty narrow road so plan for plenty of time.  On weekends during the tubing season, it is very crowded.  Karen and Carole were following me and apparently Karen did not get the word that we were taking River Road so her GPS was going crazy but she stayed on my tail and we all made it to Cooper's.

Now, you better come hungry to Cooper's.  The first thing you will see when you walk in is the big pit with meat cooking.  We were there for the $23.99 Steak Special.  Now for you non-Texans, that is a full 16 oz rib eye steak, baked potato, beans, and all the fixings you want.  Carolyn and I split a steak and got an extra baked potato but the potatoes were so big, one would probably have been plenty. Some of the other ladies did this as well.  Carole is checking out her choices below.

As you can see in the pictures below, we had a big crowd but they have plenty of tables for guests at Coopers.  Everyone was having a great time but you'll have to take my word on the food as I didn't get any separate pictures of it.  It was great.  Margareta was raving about her baked potato.  They were oiled and then peppered on the skin before baking.  Scrumptious.  The steak also had a lot of pepper on it but it was melt in your mouth good.

Needless to say, we were all stuffed when we left but we didn't miss out on our gathering that evening anyway.

Thursday's Potluck Dinner

After our tour of Wimberly, we returned to Potter's Creek and relaxed.  Martha, Judy, and Darlene brought their dinner items down early so they wouldn't have to make another trip to their RVs.

Birdie brought out her fancy wine opener to simplify the beverage process.

It was still pretty warm so Karen, Gloria, and Ann were looking for some shade while Paul, Dawn, and Pat were comfortable in the sun.

After a great meal, everyone stayed around to visit.  Although we had plenty of wood for campfires and the burn ban was off, no one seemed interested in having a campfire.  We had our campfire circle sans flames.  Karen and Carolyn were laughing at something someone said while Birdie and Sue were looking on.  There are no street lights at the park so it was nice and dark when we all went to bed.  We had a large open area between Birdie and my camp for us all to gather.

We did have one insistent uninvited guest.  He was not all bothered by the large crowd.

Judy, Carolyn, Maggie, and Margareta were all keeping an eye out while Birdie chased him off with some long range bug spray.  Darlene was more interested in getting away.

MaryJane moved away from the table.

But the visitor just kept wanting to come back.  The deer were pesty with their big eyes focused on the picnic table but at least we weren't worrying about any lasting after effects from them.

It was a great night and the air stayed fresh around our gathering place.  I did hear that it got smelly down the road a bit.

Touring Wimberly TX

On our way back from the Salt Lick, we decided to stop and tour Wimberly.  We plan to be there tomorrow for the Market Days but that is not a good day to hit the downtown area as it will be incredibly crowded.   Since Carolyn is always looking for good pictures, she and I headed out for a "picture" tour while some of the others shopped in the little shops.  There is a hidden sculpture garden that everyone came to see first before we split up.  It is behind some of the shops and has all kinds of unique natural animal sculptures. This group includes an elephant, a rhinoceros, and some sheep.

This pumpkin family was sitting back relaxing after Halloween.

Several crocodiles and reptilian creatures formed this setting.

There are so many animals made from natural materials here that I definitely recommend that you stop for a visit.  My grandkids love it.  Texas is big on history.  The James C. Lane house was built in 1935 near a cafe operated by his wife.  They are in the process of refurbishing the yard.

Several members of the group spent time in the Kitchen Shoppe.  Birdie and Margareta purchased electric bug zapper paddles which were put to good use back at camp.  While mosquitoes were almost non-existent, we did have a few problems with yellow jackets.  I guess there was just too much "sweetness" around.

I have been in this cute little shop and they have lots to look at plus they always decorate for the holidays.

If you want to stay in Wimberly and don't have an RV, there are all sorts of bed and breakfasts around.  These unique log cabin units are right behind all the little shops.

Into vintage clothing, there are several shoppes that can serve that desire.

Lots and lots of unique gift shops with unusual names.

The slogan for Wimberley "A little bit of heaven" and I have to agree it is a neat place to visit.

Now there has been a lot of discussion about the really tiny deer everyone is seeing but Carolyn found these boots to be more typical of Texas style.

Now this is probably not what you are thinking by the name.  It is actually a restaurant.

There is a lovely little park right behind it along the river.

Lots of places to find unique items for decorating your home or RV.

Look at the hand cut boards framing the back of this deck.

Almost a town within a town, this group of mailboxes was so cute.

Carolyn hitched a short ride on this friendly horse.

My DH is more interested in iron horses like you will find at the Hog Pound.

Wild West items for sale here.

These little shops didn't appear to be open right now but they were very cute.  Not sure what was with the sign about food for zombies but suspect that this was a Halloween scene earlier in the week.

There are lots of artists in the area and we passed a gallery of beautiful bronze statues.  I couldn't resist this one.

Back to Potter's Creek and on to the Potluck Supper.
