The RVW Convention doesn't officially start until tonight so Elaine, Anne, Cheryl, and I decided to go to Aztec to see the ruins. It's only less than an hour away.
The visit starts with the museum area where there is lots of info as well as a gift shop.
This is a very ancient place.
This area is important to many different tribes.
Now to the outdoor area and the actual ruins.
Obviously a recreation but very realistic.
Inside the recreation seems very authentic. There are several levels but this is the interior lower part. All those smaller openings you saw in the earlier picture from outside and what you can see here let in light and were probably like the original entrances.
This structure is mostly underground and would have had a domed top with entrance down a ladder.
One room leads into another room with very low entrances in between. The people were shorter but lower entrances also meant that enemies had to bend over as they tried to come in.
Limbo anyone?
Cheryl went all the way up to the top even after we halfway crawled through the inner rooms....one way in and one way out so no choice but to press on.
It was getting a little warm for the rest of us.
We went into the town of Aztec and saw this beautiful mural.
We went the 550 Pizzeria restaurant for lunch. The rest of us ordered pizza but Cheryl order half a meatball sub which had two gigantic meatballs.
It was a fun adventure.
Fantastic
