Ropa Usada Anyone?

We gathered at the patio between Sue's motorhome and a park model which the Winter Texan visitors had already vacated.  Darlene, Rhonda, Diana, Birdie, Carolyn, and Gloria.

Vicki and Sue.

There are many Ropa Usada's in the Valley.  We went to the Moonrise Ropa.

And just what is a Ropa Usada?  Well, it is more than a place to find used clothes.  It is an experience.  You never know what you might find.  Apparently, visiting the Ropas is a unique experience that many Winter Texans enjoy.  In the background, you can see bails of clothing with Birdie and Diana posing in the doorway.

They bring the bales in with a forklift and pile the clothes up.  Sue told us that the pile is usually two or three times this high and people climb right into it.  Carolyn, me, and Sharon were checking out Diana's find.

Sue told us that people in her park often come to find clothing items to use for the theatricals they put on.

  1. Are Ropa Usadas unique to Texas. Do the proceeds go to charity? Hmmm…you have my curiosity up--good thing I'm not a cat ! :)

  3. My mother and I used to visit the ropa usadas in McAllen when we would visit my Aunt who lived there. She would take us. At first you are overwhelmed by what you see but as you begin to pick through you would find amazing beautiful quality designer clothing that you purchased by the poundđŸ˜„ Each day had a different price per pound. I'm traveling to Laredo soon and I plan to go to one. It has been over 30 years since I have been!
