A Birthday Skating Celebration

Well, Cameron did not choose the San Antonio Zoo.  And he did not choose roller skating.  So it was off to the indoor ice skating rink for us.  Now I used to be a pretty good ice skater when I was young and, I could probably have managed on my own just fine.  But skating with Morgan just wasn't an option as we would both have been down in seconds.  This is only the second time on the ice for both of the kids.  Last time Helen was also here so she worked with Morgan.  But Steve was optimistic that he could manage to spend time skating with both kids without any problem.  Getting the skates on was the first challenge.

Morgan was just as excited about skating as Cameron.

Dad helps Cameron get his "sea legs".

A short video of Cameron "gliding" around the rink.

Dad and Morgan take a turn.....

Grand finale......

Cameron whizzes around on his own.  Sorry the pictures are not great but there was glass around the rink.

After the ice skating was over, we went over to the bookstore for refreshments and then home.  All the  "boys" were relaxing on the couch.

Then Grandpa came home and it was time for birthday cake.

And scary faces....

And some time later, it was time for the final event of the "big" day, a sleepover in the living room complete with sheet tent.  Poor Dad slept, or at least tried to sleep, on the couch right next to Cameron and Morgan's "tent".

It was a big day for everyone.  Hard to believe our Cameron will be nine years old this weekend.  Happy Birthday Cam!

Easter Sunday

It's great to wake up on Easter Sunday morning.  You know what a wonderful day it is.  You know what a great gift we have all been given.  Something to contemplate no matter what your beliefs are.

And how wonderful it is that we get to spend it with our oldest son and our two youngest grandchildren.  Of course, we are missing our daughter-in-law Helen who graciously sent Steve off to be with his kids and parents.  She is pretty special.  Next year Helen!

And, of course, we miss our youngest son Brian, wife Lorri, and granddaughter Zoe plus older grandchildren Mike and Kirsten who are off at college.

So what else happened today.  Well, the kids and Steve did another campout in the living room.  You may remember their first campout.  It wasn't long ago.  Willy and Harley were thrilled because they get to campout too.  Gretchen, not so much!  She was very confused about the whole event.  She needs her beauty sleep so she went in her crate and was upset no one came to shut the door.  Poor baby.  On the other hand, no one likes an RV campout better than Gretchen.

Anyway, Grandma got up when she heard the kids in the morning.  Steve was desperately trying to catch a few zzzzzzz's since he missed so many during the night of the campout.

I told the kids we were having hard boiled eggs for breakfast.   Cameron said "I'll take mine boiled pleased." I told him they were already cooked but I could heat them up with some butter or he could have them cold with salt and pepper.  He had one each way.  Morgan had hers cold with salt and pepper.  Steve got up and had eggs too.

There was one final egg hunt left for the weekend.  The two grandkids and three furry kids gathered in the backyard to hunt down the eggs their Dad and Grandpa hid out there.

" Okay kids, here are the rules."

There are 28 small eggs and two big eggs so I don't think you found them all yet.  Keep looking!

How many do you have Morgan?

These are really good Dad.

Sometimes Morgan just can't help being silly!  Cameron is protesting the picture taking.

Cameron also got a styrofoam airplane.  See the plane Steve is throwing.  And Morgan got a foam book to put design and put together.

Great throw Cameron!

It was a great weekend.  Dinner will be served in a little while and later on we will have to take the kids back to Marble Falls to meet their Mom.  But we all had a great weekend.  I hope your Easter was a good one too.

Camping Out Any Way We Can Get It

We really wanted to take the grandkids camping over Spring Break but iffy weather with projected rain and state parks full of Springbreakers kind of foiled that idea.  So we did day trips and had lots of fun but...the kids still had their own ideas about camping out so.....

So a few dining room chairs, some clamps from the garage, a queen-size sheet, and an air mattress.....

Harley was on-board with the idea from the get-go while Gretchen was not really so sure about it all...she kept going over to her crate when she was ready to go to bed but eventually she decided not to miss out on the fun.

Willy was also checking out all his options.  If he didn't have to sleep in his crate, he wanted to get the best spot but he still hadn't decided what the best spot was going to be.

Their Dad slept on the blue couch to the right so Willy ultimately decided that was the very best spot.

And they all even got some sleep!
