Views from the Lake

Breakfast wasn't real early while we were RVing but it was real good. One morning Helen made butterscotch pancakes and turkey bacon.

Everyone was up for that!

At times the campground was a little crowded with all the neighbors congregating in the central meadow.

There was lots of swimming, playing at the playground, and even a few games of hoops.

"My dad is out playing hoops with the kids and I didn't get to go because I'm on heart worm treatment crate rest....and I'm not allowed on the couch even though those smug little dachsies are....something about I take up 3/4 of the couch. Oh, wait.....who is that out the door?"

Yes, this is the view out the door.

This guy looks big until you compare him to anything else. There are about four deer with racks this size.

We had a great time at the lake, got lots of fresh air and sun, and played hard.

Yesterday, it was time to pack up and come home. We needed to make a trip to the grocery store. And, the black tank was full. This is the first time my black tank has actually gotten full. I guess three adults and two kids will do that in five days. I probably kept adding more water too as I know the kids use more toilet paper than the rest of the group. So we packed up and hit the dump station. The kids all got in one last swim while the dachsies and I sat under a picnic shelter and read for a while.  Don't you hate it when good things come to an end?  We'll be back.

Weekend at Canyon Lake, TX

Since we were unable to get spots at Inks Lake for the weekend, we put Plan B into action and I called one of my favorite Passport America parks, LaPointe RV Resort at Canyon Lake to see if they had room for us.  The front desk said come on down, we should have room so we headed off on a little one hour jaunt to our next stop.  LaPointe RV Resort is actually a membership campground but they do allow Passport America and Escapee visitors to use the park.  They do not reserve spots for either members or visitors so you just have to take your chances about availability of a spot but we have always been lucky.  I do call ahead just to ensure that chances are good though.  They have some spots with W/E/S and some with just W/E.  We actually prefer those as they are in a more natural area of the park.  Some of the members bring their rigs out and leave them so they won't always be occupied.  Here we are all set up.

The dogs are getting a walk before we hit the pool.  They are busy taking in all the old and new smells.  Steve has the poop bags in hand because we are always good visitors.

The members have added posts to hold the horseshoes since our last visit.  The laundromat is at the top of the picture.  Sometimes things are a little "shabby sheek" since a lot of the maintenance is done as projects by the members but we enjoy it anyway.

The kids love the large L-shaped pool.  As you can see, we had it pretty much to ourselves on Friday afternoon.

Steve is checking out Canyon Lake in the background.  The resort has quite a bit of undeveloped property and you can hike down to the lake and swim or boat there if you like.

Morgan is practicing her dives or belly flops.  She is quite proud of being the "queen" of belly flops.

Cameron is perfecting his diving technique.  This was not one of his best ones as he was just getting warmed up.

Since we were here last year, someone painted the pool maintenance building with this really nice mural.  It looked great.

This is across the lake at the COE day use area taken with a telephoto lense.  Saturday, it was packed but not too crowded at all on Friday and Sunday.

There is another smaller pool that is above the big pool and right next to the clubhouse.  It is reserved for adults only.

There are lots of deer roaming through the park.

LOTS of deer.  I think these campers were feeding them every day.

We had a wonderful time here.  Our original plan was to leave on Sunday but we stretched it out until Tuesday.  The weather was Texas warm but the pool was cool and we were having fun.

On the Road Again, So Happy to be On the Road Again

Picked up the RV from storage yesterday afternoon, loaded up this morning and hit the road.  We didn't go far but the Traveling Longdogs and I are so happy to be out in the RV.  I called on a whim last week to see if La Pointe RV Resort might have any openings--didn't expect to get a yes because the COE campgrounds are all full.  The trick is that they don't take reservations here.  It's a membership park but they don't take reservations from members either.  They honor Passport America and Escapees as well as a couple of others.  Sooooo, I called again yesterday to see if they still had openings, got another yes, and went to pick up the RV.  I came early in the week because I figured most people would come later.  School started in Texas this week.   Here we are tooling down the road to Canyon Lake.

Even though school is on, the toobers are still doing business.  It will be hot here for quite a while.  And, no, those are not rainclouds.  There is no rain around here and we could use it.

Sometimes it's "toobs" sometimes it's "tubes" but then you are liable to get "haus" instead of "house".  Anyway, the toobs are the round donut floats that were originally from tires but are now usually plastic inflatables.

Okay, I'm here and this is the only picture you are getting tonight.  I took it out the back window of the 5th wheel.  Nice, huh?  See the deer?  I've seen at least 10 or 15 including a mother with two fawns and several guys with racks.  Of course, these deer aren't a whole lot bigger than my youngest son's mastiffs.

Things are all set up or stowed away depending on the item and I'm off to bed now.  I'll be back with more pictures.
