A Day at the Pool on the Riverwalk

Steve and Helen arrived late on Wednesday night.  It's always nice when business fits in with pleasure.  Steve was here because he is spending Spring Break with his kids.  This time Helen got to come along because she had a conference here in town and her boss also sent her early to do some inspections at Lackland AFB.  A two-fer!  They drove up to Marble Falls to pick up the kids on Friday evening.  Saturday, Helen had to check into her hotel on the Riverwalk, La Mansion.  Nice.  Steve and the kids went down to spend the night with her.  The big draw for the kids was the heated outdoor pool.  They swam Saturday evening early and then later the hotel projected a movie "Rainy with a Chance for Meatballs" on the wall behind the pool.  Not bad but it gets better.  The kids each got instructions for a treasure hunt.  So while Helen conferenced on Sunday, Steve and the kids followed all the clues around the hotel to get the info they needed to complete the treasure hunt.  Then they each got a little backpack filled with prizes.  Pretty nice.

Tuesday, I went down to meet the kids and spend some time with them.  Of course, some of that time was at the pool.  Climbing out to jump back in.

We went out for pizza but the camera battery picked that time to die.  Darn.  It was fun anyway.  I had to come back and edit this post.  I completely forgot to mention my famous person siting.  Cameron needed to use the restroom while we were at the pool and the closest restroom was in the lobby.  I went with him and waited out in front while he was busy.  I noticed a woman with a small dog in the lobby and then I saw "Hulk Hogan" come right behind her.  Although he was on crutches, he is still in very good shape and looked just as you would expect him to look with his trademark bandana.  Sorry, I didn't get a picture, you'll just have to take my word for it.  It was too much of a surprise and would have been intrusive since he was just going through to the parking area.  I got a very good look since he was only 5 feet away from me.

Inks Lake State Park TX

Headed out about 11 AM after hearing back from my friend Birdie that she was on the road.  She was at Dinosaur Valley State Park.  I called her earlier but she didn't have a phone connection from either AT&T or Trac Phone at her site. When we initially connected via email, she wasn't sure if she was going to hit the road because of rain but it was looking better so we both headed out to connect.  The doxies and I stopped to get a bit of lunch in Marble Falls because I knew we would be at Inks Lake before Birdie.  Okay, I had lunch, the doxies only do meals twice a day so they got a dog treat.

Birdie arrived at Inks Lake State Park near Burnett about 15 minutes after I did.  The doxies had a joyous reunion with her as I did.  It has been 5 months since we saw each other as she was off on her Alaskan journey.

Can't get much closer to the lake than this.

Birdie was just above me with a great site as well.  It sure is nice to come during the week as it is very quiet and peaceful here.

Inks Lake is not low like a lot of the Texas lakes because it sits between two dams on the Colorado River and the LCRA keeps the water level within 6 inches of the same all the time.

You might be interested in renting a cabin.  They have two sets of twins bunks as well as a table and chairs.  They are also air conditioned.

There are quite a few loops for camping but the number of campsites on each loop is small which is nice.  We had a young couple with 1 and 4 year old boys in a tent just up the hill from us.  It was their first time camping and they were having a ball.

There were some fisher people across the way.

We are sitting about twenty feet from the restroom to get an Internet signal.  It's sunny and a bit hard to see the screen so you may not get another post until I get home.  Having a great time....wish you were here.

Let the Fun Times Continue

The kids really enjoyed the playground at the park.

They even had a little log cabin which led to all kinds of imaginative playing.

You can almost see the ideas bouncing around.  Just in case you are wondering, Steve has a camera with a fish eye that is also water resistant.  The log cabin is not bulging.

And we have to show off all our muscles.

There was also fun to be had at the horse shoe pits.

Of course, the rules had to occasionally be modified for small players.  I think the shoes belonged to a clydesdale.

And then there was more swimming......this is an activity that never grows old.  Morgan is the belly flop champion!

She does it on purpose and she can really make a splash.

There were a lot of games of Marco Polo.  Steve got caught here.

And lots of physical activity leads to snacks.

And occasionally even leads to unplanned naps.

Fun Escalates at Lake Pointe RV Resort

Quiet times came to an end on Friday evening.  The day started quiet and then picked up when my son Steve arrived at the park in the morning.  We walked around the park and checked out all the facilities.  Then, of course, my computer was put to good use while we relaxed outside.  Later in the afternoon, we drove up to Marble Falls to pick up the Grandkids.  The Traveling Longdogs were thrilled because they got to head out in the car too.  Of course, they were already excited just because Steve arrived and they were delirious when the kids arrived.

This looks kind of serious but the kids were looking at pictures of their Dad riding his motorcycle from Florida to Texas to visit.

And Grandma smartly brought along some of the smaller toys out of the toy box at Grandma'as house for those times when it was too hot or too late to be outside.

Of course, most of our time was spent outside.  As much time at the pool as possible.

Yes, all of us were at the pool.  And it was not crowded either.

Now, of course, the pool was not the only activity.  More on that tomorrow.

A Relaxing Day at Lake Pointe RV Resort, Canyon Lake TX

This morning the Traveling Longdogs and I went for a walk around the park while it was still cool. The head housekeeper was busy in the recreation hall cleaning.  They have a TV viewing room, a library, and restrooms with showers.  There is also a room with a coded lock on it for over 18 year -olds which has a couple of pool tables and some other things.  At the other end of the building is a room with a pool table and ping pong table for the 17 and under crowd.

Next was the playground which has a cute little fort and another little play building all for the under 12 year old crowd.  The doxies complained loudly when they saw the "No Pets Allowed" sign at the front of the park.

They pointed out that it was hardly fair when you take a close look at who was using the playground when we walked by.

This is the laundry room.  There's quite a porch around it so it isn't quite as large as it appears.

We walked back to the RV so Willy, Harley, and Gretchen could get a nap in while I went up to the office to see what kind of equipment they might have to check out.  This is the family pool which is a junior olympic size and quite nice.  You can see the lake out in the background.

The fenced area up in the trees is the adult pool which you will see in a minute.

This is the adult pool up by the office.  It is right next to a huge deck around the office and lounge area.

 I think these deer were on their way down to the lake.  Or they may have been planning to get in a little shuffleboard.

This is the office and lounge area.  There is a fireplace which may get used much later in the year.

The lower deck is very pretty with another deck beyond that looks over the open area down to the lake.

Nice way of warning people not to hit their heads on the "Headache Tree".

I got another cup of coffee in the office and sat out on a porch swing enjoying the day.

There is a small fountain in front of the office parking lot.  A lot of people have golf carts around here but it really isn't far to walk.

Someone also built a small "Memorial Garden" up near the gate.  As you can see, there is a high fence so this is one place the deer are not welcome.

On the way back to the RV, I walked past another building which is available for large parties.  You can see a volleyball court in front and there are also horseshoe pits.

After my coffee, I went back and hung some pictures in the RV, did a little cleanup and then went for a swim in that lovely pool.  95 degrees didn't seem like much when swimming in a nice pool.
