2021-04-07 Prairie Dog Town

I had an online meeting in the morning but we headed out to visit Prairie Dog Town right after it was over. Prairie dogs ae nothing new to Texans but Carolyn is from Louisiana and Sharon is from California so it was all new to them.

They had a whole park dedicated to them. Prairie dogs live underground in tunnels which are connected.

K.N. Clapp built this park to save the black-tailed prairie dog from extinction. Ranchers aren't real fond of the little critters because they dig holes which are very dangerous to their horses and livestock. I found it interesting that he thought building a wall around the very large area would contain the prairie dogs. They pretty go where they want and, since they tunnel, it didn't take much for them to spread outside their area.

Sharon found these two little guys across the parking lot.

The online reviews said the prairie dogs like lettuce and carrots. They were right. They are also pretty brave.

Most of them looked pretty healthy and well fed.

Those outside the contained area were the most brave.

All in all, it was a fun time and the weather was very nice.

We decided to have a very late lunch at Taqueria Jalisco. The were lots of cars there even that late so it was a good bet that it would be good. And it was!

Mary Jane and I decided to split an order of fajitas and Carolyn and Sharon decided to do the same. Good thing as the servings were large.

It was all delicious.

Everything was great including the service from our waitress.
