2025-04-11 A Visit to Granbury TX

The rally ended but several of us stayed for a few more days. One of those days we went back to Granbury. Courthouses in Texas are generally pretty impressive and the one in Granbury is no exception.

A neat kitchen store had this inflatable figure waving his are wildly in front of the store.

This statue is across the street from a famous building which used to house a restaurant called the Nutt House. It is still a restaurant but it is now called Christina's American table.

We arrived at the same time as the docent. She let us take these photos while she was opening up.

We moved on without actually touring the jail as the opening up was taking a while. This photo was taken in front of a unique mercantile store that had all kinds of iron works as well as paintings and other unique items. Anne and Jo could not pass this handmade teeter totter by without giving it a try.

Another view of the courthouse before we left. Granbury is a great town to visit. It's located on Lake Granbury and there used to be a great boat ride but I couldn't find anything about it this time. It was as famous as the Granbury Opera House and people came for many miles.

2015-04-10 Dinosaur Valley State Park, Glen Rose TX

Elaine had been to Dinosaur Valley State Park a number of years ago but Anne, Janie, and I had never been there so we headed out one morning.

First thing you see when you head into the park is the two large statues near the park store. I should mention that Glen Rose has adopted dinosaurs as their mascot and you will see them everywhere in town.

Dinosaur State Park is a unique park dedicated to the dinosaur footprints left in the area.

The Blue Hole

It was a bit too chilly for us to consider swimming but there were some people wading.

When the water is a little low, you can easily see the dinosaur tracks in the river. To get to that side you have to cross the river on some rocks that form a path of sorts. Unfortunately I didn't get a good picture of them because they were constantly in use. There was a large group of young children there as a school group. Must have been 30 of them. The ranger is using a fishing rod to point out the tracks in the river. The kids had tons of questions. Full credit to the teachers and parents who accompanied them. I would never have wanted to cross the rocks with all those kids.

We also checked out the campground and I thought I had pictures but I guess not as I was driving. I had hear comments that those with large RVs were better off staying in the private RV park which is located just before you get to the park. The campground is not large and the sites are not huge but I would have no trouble getting my 28' motorhome and car into many of the sites. There are lots of trees. Some sites are close together while others have better privacy. There were two family sites which were just three sites each that were close together. There are lots of trails for hiking, biking, or even horseback riding.

2025-04-09 Dutch Oven Demonstration for TRR

Some members of the Cleburne Dutch Oven Group came to give us a demonstration and fix lunch for us one day. One of the Rally hostesses is a member of the group so she was able to set this up. One of the guys told us all about the different items that the members use. They even had some of the items for sale if someone was interested.

There were two couples doing the demonstration.

They fixed Asian chicken thighs with yellow rice, baked ziti, bread, vegetables, and dump cake. It was all fabulous.

2025-04-08 Glen Rose TRR Rally

On Sunday afternoon before the rally actually started, a number of us drove over to Granbury and attended "Bonnie and Clyde" at the Granbury Opera House. It was very well done and we all enjoyed it although those down in the main floor seats froze the whole time. It was so cold that we might as well have been outside. A friend got this shot before the play started because you weren't allowed to take photos during the play.

After it was over, we all gathered on the spiral staircase for a group photo.

PJ gave a demonstration and had samples of all kinds of fire starters that you can make. She is very creative.

One day about 10 of us had lunch at the Storiebook Cafe. It's a really unique place that serves lunch, sells books, and has lots of antique displays. Lots of fun.

We arrived right when it opened at 11 but it quickly filled and every table was taken.

Another night we all headed out to Massey's Barbeque. You order your meat and sides separately at the counter and then they deliver to the table. I ordered a half pound of brisket and potato salad and had plenty of brisket left for a big sandwich the next day. It was fast and very good.

2025-04-07 Fossil Rim Wildlife Center, Glen Rose TX

We checked into the Texas Ramblin' Roses rally at Oakdale Motor Inn and RV Park in Glen Rose TX after an hour's drive over from McCown Valley COE on Sunday afternoon. Elaine and I had buddy sites but there will be more on that in another post. Monday morning after coffee at the rally room, Elaine, Shelley, Janie, and I headed over to Fossil Rim Wildlife Center.
