Harley takes his role as navigator seriously!

2022-05-18 Martin Dies Jr State Park, Texas

There are two separate areas at Martin Dies. Carolyn, Mary, Irene, and Sheryl followed their GPS directions to the Hen House area while I had set my GPS for the Walnut Ridge area which is where my reservation said we were. The two areas are separate by the highway. The actual check in area is on the Hen House side but nothing tells you that in advance.

It actually worked out well because I went directly to my site and got set up before they arrived.

I was out of the way so they could take turns pulling into the little loop we had to ourselves. While they had to each wait to unhook, I hopped in my car and drove over to the park store to check in.

We all have nice RVs but Sheryl has the most unique because hers is a retro look one which attracts a lot of attention.

Some kind person left us a load of firewood in Carolyn's site which we made our group get-together site. We never used the wood as it was quite warm so we passed it on to the next camper.

Nice lake views from our little cul-de-sac.

Lots of space around our campsites but this cul-de-sac would not be recommended for large RVs as it has a narrow sharp turnng circle.

We all contributed to dinner that first night. No sandwiches or frozen TV dinners here.

This is a crawfish and pasta dinner.

Another lovely sunset.

This was the special lunar eclipse night.

Carolyn and Mary drove over to the bridge to get a better view.

Carolyn and I checked out the wildscape garden area one day.

There are plants to attract and support the butterflies and moths.

Right across the road is a little library with tables and benches around.

It's right next to the bird viewing station so maybe to help keep the kids busy while the birders look.

We also checked out the day use area which is where the beach is also located...not in the slough of course.

The beach was not busy during the week.

There is also a kayak rental station that does not need an attendant.

The beach also has a nice showering station.

Carolyn and Mary did some trike riding while we were there. Mia likes to go if the ride isn't too long.

We saw some canoeists one day.

The 2d night was grill night. Here is me reminding my Louisiana friends that we do not put Tony's seasoning on perfectly good steak.

Sides were equally delicious.

Some of us ate faux meat.......why call it meat when it is not? Just my thoughts.

Sheryl brought dessert lol.

Another beautiful sunset. There so many beautiful sunsets. We are not done yet....there will be more posts.
